Gilford's two command cars have recently received Icom Radios that will receive the MDA signals from the Motorola 2500 portable radios being used for daily operations. Once the MDA on the portable radio is activtaed an alert is broadcast over the Icom radio, with the screen advising which radio number has been activated. Also, an orange LED light flashes on top of the radio consol in case the alert is not heard. There is plans of adding an additional Icom radio to 8E2 which is Gilfords first due attack engine. The Icons greatly increase firefighter safety and awareness should a firefighter ever have to call a mayday.
