Career members have been recently fitted, equipped, and trained on bailout systems that were provided to them by the department. These bailout systems will allow the firefighters to have the equipment for an emergency exit of a structure if needed. A CMC harness, a descending device, and life safety rope which either has a Fesh or Crosby hook is what the career staff now carries on their turnout gear.
A "Bailout Window" was created in the rear of the apparatus bay of the fire station. The window serves a dual purpose. It is easy access to the hose tower for loading hose; yet it also mimics a window frame and sill for firefighters to practice bailouts. This bailout system is an extra safety feature that ensures firefighters go home at the end of their shifts. It’s a tool we have, but one we never want to have to use.
