| Water Supply Training Challenges Fire Crews

|
Gilford Fire Rescue members experienced how challenging establishing an effective water supply can be. On Sunday, June 7th, crews were put to the test with both classroom presentations and supply drills. The day started in the GFD training room with two power point presentations – “Gilford Fire Protection Water Supplies” and “Gilford Water Supply Operations”. Members applied what they learned at practical excercises at Alpine Ridge (Gunstock Recreation Area) and the Lowe's Plaza. Operations discussed and demonstrated included: drafting with multiple pump intakes, portable pumps, rural hitches, fold-a-tanks, tanker shuttles, forward/reverse hose lays, inline relay pumping, and fill/dump site set up. It was a great learning opportunity for all. A list of new water supply equipment and ideas will be generated to hopefully improve our rural water supply operations. Also, the existing Water Supply SOPs will be updated to the new SOP format, reviewed and accepted in the near future.
